Philosophical values behind Subak Tourism


Rice terraces in Bali

Subak region is known as the farm-based tourist areas, precisely rice terrace area, and later gained recognition as world cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2012.

Perhaps most tourists just looked from ‘fun’ side only, they merely passing by or just to take pictures to convey memories.

Interesting things about Subak is about farm life, behind the philosophical side of wetland development. Rice fields in Bali gets the water from Mount Batur, the farmers are required to pray at Pura Batur. Subak system steeped in culture and religion, every rice field in Bali is always present place of worship, temple or pura (in local terms).


Prepare ritual in Pura

Rice became one mandatory ingredient for any ceremony for Balinese Hindus, farming became livelihoods and water are considered as sanctified objects by their custom traditions.
